What do you do when the recipe calls for kecap manis and you go to the pantry only to find you don't have any? Why, you make it yourself of course. It's really not that difficult to do, and to be honest with you, I much prefer the homemade stuff because you are in control of the quantities. You can make it as sweet or not as you want.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 + half a 1/4 cup of brown sugar
Putting it all together:
In a small pot, add everything together.
Simmer over low to medium heat until it thickens.
It's as simple as that, however, you do need to keep an eye on it while it's cooking to avoid overboiling. As it cools down, it'll thicken further.
Carefully pour into your old, saved, kecap manis bottle and voila.
